Frozen Homemade Dog Treats!

With summer fast approaching (and the heat bound to show up at some point), we are all going to be looking for ways to keep our beloved four-legged friends cool. What better way to do this then with these 5 quick and easy dog treat recipes!

Berry Blast Chiller

Ingredients/what you'll need:

  • 1-2 cups plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup berries of your choice (blue berries are usually my choice as you don't have to chop them!)
  • Silicone mold or an ice cube tray

How to:

  1. Wash your berry or berries of choice and place berries into a bowl.
  2. Add plain Greek yogurt (be sure that it has zero sugar added) into the berry bowl and mix everything together.
  3. Place mixture into your mold.
  4. Put molds into the freezer for 1 hour or until frozen
  5. Give to your dog!

Peanut Butter Banana Pupsicle

Ingredients/what you'll need:

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1/2 cup all natural peanut butter (no sugar or sweeteners)
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt (no sugar)
  • Bully Sticks or another of your dog's favourite treats (must be a hard treat)
  • Silicone molds or popsicle molds

How to:

  1. Peel a ripened banana and smash it in a bowl (I like to use a potato masher but a fork will do the job). Don't worry about making it perfectly smooth, I promise your dog will not notice the lumps.
  2. Add the all natural peanut butter and plain Greek yogurt to the mashed banana. Stir until combined.
  3. Spoon mixture into molds.
  4. Once molds are full, add your dog treat of choice to the top of the molds. press down like you would if you were using popsicle sticks. Make sure to leave enough visible from the top so that a "stick" is formed. I like to use Bully Sticks because they hold their shape and do not turn to mush.
  5. Place molds into freezer for 1 hour or until frozen.
  6. Take out of molds and serve to your pup!

Chicken, Apple and Spinach Cubes

Ingredients/what you'll need:

  • 1-1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup apples thinly sliced or chopped into small cubes
  • 1/2 cup fresh spinach finely chopped
  • Ice cube tray or silicone mold
  • Knife

How to:

  1. Finely chop your spinach and place it into a bowl.
  2. Thinly slice your apple or chop into small cubes. Add that to the spinach that is already in the bowl.
  3. Add your chicken broth to the chopped spinach and apples. Stir to combine.
  4. Pour mixture into your molds or ice cube tray.
  5. Place into the freezer for about 2 hours or until frozen.
  6. Serve to your pup!
